У пастці пролепсису: пророчий наратив у романі Джин Рис «Широке Саргасове море»

| dc.description.abstract | UKR: Стаття присвячена дослідженню вживання літературного прийому пролепсис та його ролі у створенні пророчого наративу у романі Джин Рис «Широке Саргасове море» (1966). На перший погляд, роман потрапляє у пастку зразків скопійованих творів, через очевидний зв’язок з «Джейн Ейр». Проте, якщо врахувати, що основний задум створення тексту полягав у бажання письменниці виправдати поведінку божевільної, замкненої на горищі Торнфілдхолу, то такий зв’язок є цілком виправданим. Відслідковуючи причини безумства героїні, Джин Рис звільняє персонажа Антуанетти від стереотипних характеристик. До всіх раціональних мотивів, що пояснюють поведінку героїні та її пізнішого ув’язнення у маєтку, Джин Рис створює пророчий текст, у якому події відбуваються тому, що вони передбачені. Для вироблення чіткої лінії дослідження щодо впливу пролепсису на структуру тексту, у нашій роботі ми послуговуємося термінами та дефініціями, які були запропоновані французьким літературознавцем Ж. Женеттом у його науковій праці “Narrative Discourse”: “advance notices” («анонси»), які відіграють роль попереднього сповіщення та “recalls” («зачатки»), які кваліфікуються як маркери без передбачення. На думку науковця, пролепсис тяжіє до порівняно обмеженого використання у літературі, через здатність літературного прийому послаблювати напруження стосовно очікування читача, що пояснює недостатнє його вивчення. Тож, у нашому дослідженні зроблено спробу заповнити цю лакуну. Текст роману Джин Рис «Широке Саргасове море» структурується за допомогою передчуттів та передбачень, які читач має тримати у пам’яті аби пізніше зв’язати з відповідними сюжетами роману. Окрім того, у тексті спостерігається вживання об’єктивного пролепсису, який передує очікуваній події, та суб’єктивного, що допомагає читачеві побачити майбутнє очима персонажа. За допомогою пролепсису авторка не лише створюється оригінальний текст, але й надає йому чуттєвої містичності. | uk_UA |
| dc.description.abstract | ENG: The article is devoted to the study of the use of the literary device prolepsis and its role in creating a prophetic narrative in Jean Rhys’s The Wide Sargasso Sea (1966). At first glance, the novel falls into the trap of being a model of copied works due to its obvious connection with Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. However, if we consider that the main goal of the text was the writer’s desire to justify the behaviour of a madwoman locked in the attic of Thornfield Hall, this connection is completely justified. By tracing the causes of the character’s madness, Jean Rhys frees Antoinette from stereotypical characteristics. In addition to all the rational motives that explain the woman’s behaviour and her later imprisonment, Jean Rhys creates a prophetic text in which events occur since they have been predicted. To develop a clear line of research on the influence of prolepsis on the text structure, we use the terms and definitions proposed by the French literary critic Gérard Genette in his Narrative Discourse: “advance notices” which play the role of prior notification, and “recalls” which are qualified as markers without foresight. According to the scholar, prolepsis tends to be relatively limited in its use in fiction literature, due to the ability of the literary device to ease the tension of the readers’ expectation, which explains its insufficient study. Therefore, our study attempts to fill this gap. The text of Jean Rhys’s The Wide Sargasso Sea is structured with the help of premonitions and predictions that the reader must keep in mind to connect them with the relevant plots of the novel later. In addition, objective prolepsis, which precedes the expected event, and subjective prolepsis, which helps readers see the future through the eyes of the character are used in the novel. With the help of prolepsis, the author not only creates an original text but gives it a sensual mystique. | en |
